Field tripping

Image
Friday gone was the last field trip of the year which is always a little bit more exciting. We decided to head up the western coast and make a few stops. A walk on a  stretch of abandoned road was our first stop to break up the driving. We came out right where this sign tells you...or the real town name Gouyave! Kirani is a Grenadian runner with the fastest record in the 400m and is going to the Olympics! We stopped at Carib's Leap and wanted to go down and do some exploring. It was locked and gated but broken bars are an entrance we supposed so through we climbed! Miss Metzler and Destiny a man upon the wetland fishing! Celina about to try swimming in the marshes Levera Beach exploring In search of sea turtle eggs. Climbing in the trees of course! lunch time lime! the three-some my motley crew..never a dull moment! *a student was not in her seat when the bell rang. I told her she can spend 5 minutes in at the next

Underwater world

Time is slipping away. Saturdays are minimal so off on a snorkeling trip we went. It was a relaxing 4 hour boat ride along with unlimited drinks, and the best part of course was the snorkeling sites. The underwater world is amazing. I could have done it all day. We saw stingray, lobster, squid, eel and every other lil and big kind of imaginable fish. We had a nice group of people with us. Mostly middle age couples from the states, UK, and Guyana. It was fun talking to them and explaining what we are doing here as well.  ready and waiting to get aboard! We hung out on these big white mats every chance we weren't in the water! cheesin' it up in anticipation some "borrowed" pictures of a few of the 80+ sculptures In other activities the FINALS of this and that have begun. Reality didn't really sink in yet. I don't want it too. I cannot imagine life outside of Grenada but the truth of it is, it is about to happen. We had our final gir

Going days!

Time is going. Jo was just here. She left over a week ago. In four short weeks I will be home. I am not excited. It looks huge. Where I am comfortable seems easiest. Life isn't always easy though. As the saying goes...."sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better." I'm hoping this is the case that better things are yet to come.  Her wedding is just now. That is a good thing the states has going soon after my arrival! Hanging out in the blue house. I'm gonna miss this! Rooftop experiences     Our road tripping souvenirs were reunited. Where there's a flame...marshmallows can be toasted. The happy results. I'm still learning things in my final days of Grenada. Students don't take teacher's leaving very well. I'm not sure why I am teaching a class of girls. Emotions!!!!! ...of course I joined them! We haven't talked about it since. ugh! I think we are all just hoping it goes away. I

Corpus Christi

Image
It was another holiday. Because Grenada is predominately Catholic we had off on Thursday for Corpus Christi. The church planned a hike. We went up Mt. Hatman and then for some of us on to Hog Island..a private island with not much on it as yet!                                           Renee     Joshim  Socializing at the top of Mt. Hatman  ...and then the hike to Hog Island Horses along the way used for touring Jatan getting a jockey kids lime'n waiting for lunch The bridge that goes across to Hog Island We decided to be explorers. We followed some tourists on little trails until we bust out on a nice beach with a little restaurant/bar. Shivani didn't want to stay long cuz she ain't trust Grenadians. lol. Our discoveries didn't end when we followed a next path and could see this beautiful private island! We could only dream of what it would be like to stay there.

Hikes and more hikes...On Friday we bused..oh yes we bused.... with a drunk man in front of me and later beside me the entire hour ride! With only a few lines in his vocabulary he got old VERY fast. " Captain......watch the corner....oh LAWD"...." I ain't have...I tell ya..I ain't have."  I tried to tell him we all knew he ain't have, that he was to hush his mouth and count trees but nothing seemed to sink in..not even with the random whipping off of his hat and chewing on it would shut his mouth! We did reach Mt. Carmel Falls, our destination. Where we really wanted to go was the natural water slide not quite by the falls. Here it is in all it's jutting beauty. On the slimy rocks you slid..this way and that attempting to stay in an upright position till you reach the bottom. Then attempt to climb up on lil groves in the rocks to the left of the falls.   Mt. Carmel Falls itself Blue house sisters the drowned rats traveling homewar
